Master of Nursing

Domestic Students

• A recognised bachelor’s degree with an equivalent average mark of 60%, completed less than 10 years prior to the date of application;
• OR
• A recognised bachelor’s degree with an equivalent average mark of 60%, completed more than 10 years ago, plus a completed postgraduate qualification with an equivalent average mark greater than 60%, completed within the last 10 years.
• Faculty consideration may be given to applicants with a qualification older than 10 years and relevant work experience.
• In addition to these criteria, nursing degrees also have inherent requirements that must be met.

Higher Education Study:

• Recognised Bachelor's degree with a WAM of 60, completed less than 10 years prior to the date of application.
• Applicants with a qualification older than 10 years will be considered based on either more recent graduate study or work experience that demonstrated current capacity for graduate study.

Work and life experience:

• Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognised pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Compulsory Work Based Placement:

• Your study program requires you to attend workplace experience or clinical placements within a range of health-related settings, completed over 21 weeks (totaling 840 hours, at 40 hours per week). Before you can commence a placement within a NSW Health facility, you must meet NSW Health’s mandatory requirements for a police check, code of conduct, and immunisation/vaccination.

Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications:

• UOW recognises a range of overseas higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

English language proficiency:

• All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
• Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
• Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.

English Language Requirements:

• The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:

• Before you can start studying to become a registered nurse, you must meet the English language standards set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). To be eligible for an offer you must declare one of the following:

• You will have completed six years of schooling (including at least two years of secondary school) in English in an approved English speaking country, or
• You have undertaken/will undertake an English language proficiency test accepted for entry to this course within two years of the course start date.
• You hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Enrolled Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Midwife.

• Overall Score 7.0, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5, Listening 7.0, Speaking 7.0
