Master of Nursing (Coursework and Thesis)

The Master of Nursing (Coursework) is designed for practising Registered Nurses who want to formalise their qualifications or develop specialist knowledge in a particular area of healthcare. It is aimed at nurses who have already completed a Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Nursing, and can be completed over two semesters of part-time study from that point.

Students choose a thesis subject relevant to their specialist area of nursing practice, in consultation with their postgraduate coordinator, and are allocated a research supervisor who helps select a relevant research subject and oversees completion of the program. Specialisations are available in Clinical Nursing, Executive Leadership, Mental Health, and Perioperative Nursing.

The course structure includes three postgraduate nursing courses, one postgraduate research course, two Master's-level courses (including a supervised dissertation), one Core Curriculum course, and three postgraduate elective courses drawn from a wide list spanning nursing, health education, counselling and business topics.

Graduates can pursue careers such as nurse unit manager, nurse practitioner, nurse educator, acute care nurse, and clinical nurse. The program is delivered online and is currently offered to domestic students only.
