Eligibility
Applicants must have completed: a Bachelor's degree, in any discipline, within the last 10 years and achieved a minimum GPA of 5.0 (a Credit average); and one 12 credit point unit of study in human anatomy/physiology or a related area from any recognised tertiary institution or equivalent as determined by the Course Coordinator (for example see here ) Applicants who are already registered nurses in Australia are not eligible for admission to this course. To meet the University's minimum English Language Proficiency requirement an applicant must: 1. provide a written declaration that English is their primary language per the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia requirements*; or 2. have achieved one of the following English language test scores within two years of the intended commencement date: IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 7, with a minimum score of 7 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 6.5 in Writing; or OET with a minimum score of B in Listening, Reading and Speaking components, and a minimum score of C+ for the Writing component; or PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 66, with a minimum score of 66 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 56 in Writing; or TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test: 24 listening, 24 reading, 27 writing, and 23 speaking; or Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) minimum score of 185, with a minimum overall score of 185 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 176 for Writing. The University will accept English language test scores from one test sitting OR a maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period only if the following criteria are met: 1. IELTS (Academic): A minimum overall score of 7 in each sitting, and achieve a minimum score of 7 in each component for Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 6.5 for Writing across the two sittings, and no score in any component for either test sitting is below 6.5. 2. OET: Tested in all four components in each sitting and achieve a minimum score of B in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and 56 in Writing across the two sittings, and no score in any component for either test sitting is below 56. 3. PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 66 in each sitting and a minimum of 66 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and 56 in Writing across the two sittings, and no score in any component for either test sitting is below 56. 4. TOEFL iBT: A minimum total score of 94 in each sitting and a minimum of 24 for Listening, 24 for Reading, 24 for Writing and 23 for Speaking across the two sittings, and no score in any section for either test sitting is below: 20 for Listening, 19 for Reading, 24 for Writing, and 20 for Speaking. 5. Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): Tested in all four components in each sitting and achieved a minimum score of 185 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum of 176 for Writing across the two sittings, and no score in any component for either test sitting is below 176. *Please note that you may be asked to provide evidence for your declaration per the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia requirements. This course includes 840 hours of supervised Work Integrated Learning (WIL). All WIL hours must be completed to meet the requirements of the Master of Nursing and to be able to apply for nursing registration with AHPRA. Clinical placement will be anywhere between two and six weeks in length at an agreed facility.
Yes. This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Students enrolled in the Master of Nursing will be registered by Southern Cross University with NMBA as an enrolled student. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
While SCU considers your current residential address when allocating placements, local placements are not guaranteed. It is essential to keep your address up to date in MyEnrolment, as inaccurate information may result in a placement that requires extended travel. You should be prepared to travel to your allocated placement, which may be outside your immediate local area, and you are responsible for organising and covering any associated costs, including travel, accommodation, and related expenses.
The annual tuition fee for international students is $36,000 (based on $4,500 per unit, completing 8 units per year). Tuition fees are in Australian dollars and are subject to change, including annual increases over the duration of a course. In addition, students are required to pay OSHC for the duration of their visa in advance. Non-tuition fees cover textbooks, stationery and excursions.
