About This Course

This two-year Masters degree will allow students with any undergraduate degree to graduate as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Australia. Flexible in design, you'll study in intensive blocks of theory and clinical placements, supported through interactive online content. Experience technology-enhanced learning and innovative teaching to provide contemporary, relevant, and flexible content. Grow through hands-on learning, simulation, exploration of essential theory and complete clinical placements in a variety of rural and urban settings appropriate to the level of study. General Requirements

A completed Australian bachelor degree (or recognised International equivalent) in any discipline, completed within 10 years of application.
For domestic students, whose bachelor degree was completed more than 10 years prior to application, evidence of higher educational e.g. post graduate certificate or diploma since award of the degree 10 year period can be considered.
Admission to this course is competitive. Applications will be assessed on the basis of academic merit and the number of available places.
Domestic applicants: Applications open annually on 1st August in the year prior to commencement and close on 30th November of the same year.
International applicants: Applications open annually on 1st September in the year prior to commencement and close on 15th September of the same year.
English Language Requirements (non-standard): Academic IELTS score of 7.0 overall with minimum score of 7 in listening, reading and speaking and minimum score of 6.5 in writing; or equivalent from another approved English proficiency test.

Do I need a nursing background to apply for this course?

No, this two-year Masters degree is designed to allow students with any undergraduate degree to graduate as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Australia. The only academic requirement is a completed Australian bachelor degree (or recognised international equivalent) in any discipline, completed within 10 years of application.

How many clinical placement hours are required, and where will I complete them?

Over the two years, you will be required to complete 800 hours of clinical practice across a range of local and regional medical settings — including paediatric, aged care, medical and surgical, theatre, emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit (ICU). Participating placement venues include Canberra Hospital, North Canberra Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital, and several additional private healthcare clinics in and around ACT, Sydney and regional New South Wales, e.g., Bega.

Is this course professionally accredited?

Yes, the course is professionally accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Can I study this course part-time?

Yes, this two-year full-time course can also be studied part-time.

What simulation and technology resources are available to nursing students at UC?

UC's campuses offer multiple high fidelity simulated learning environments allowing Master of Nursing Practice students to experience direct clinical practice in a safe and controlled setting. UC nursing students can expect to spend hours rehearsing and practicing together utilising a myriad of simulation trainers, manikins, emerging technology (such as AI and VR), and even actors as they prepare for clinical practice.
