Yes, the Master of Nursing (Pre-Registration) is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and is listed as an approved program of study on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Graduates may be eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) through the NMBA, subject to meeting the registration standards.
Students are required to complete 840 hours of clinical placements, undertaken over 21 weeks at 40 hours per week, across a range of health-related settings and health districts. Please note that travel to different clinical facilities will be required to complete placements.
All UOW courses are taught in English. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements. Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET. Additionally, for NMBA registration after graduation, the NMBA requires an overall IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum of 7.0 in reading, speaking, and listening, and 6.5 in writing, with test results obtained within two years of applying for registration.
Applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree with an equivalent average mark of 60%, completed less than 10 years prior to the date of application. Alternatively, applicants with a degree completed more than 10 years ago must also have a completed postgraduate qualification with an equivalent average mark greater than 60%, completed within the last 10 years. Faculty consideration may be given to applicants with a qualification older than 10 years and relevant work experience.
The Master of Nursing (Pre-Registration) works on an extended academic year. First year commences with an intensive January session followed by Autumn and Spring sessions. The course is 2 years full-time and is available at both Wollongong and Liverpool campuses. For 2026, domestic applications close on 31 December 2025.
