Common Questions
No. If you are a domestic student enrolled in this Higher Degree by Research program, you will not be required to pay tuition fees. The Australian Government provides domestic students with tuition fee offsets under the Research Training Program (RTP) for up to 2 years full-time (or equivalent) for Master by Research courses. Note that the RTP covers tuition fees only; you will still be required to pay all other non-tuition fees such as the Student Services and Amenities Fee.
In Year 1 Semester 1, students complete three units: Research Preparation: Principles and Approaches (RES5115), Literature Review (NST6100), and Masters Thesis Preparation 1 (NUR6114), each worth 20 credit points. From Year 1 Semester 2 through Year 2, students are required to continuously enrol in the Masters Thesis (NUR6200) component until the thesis is submitted for examination.
All applicants must meet English language proficiency as specified by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). For IELTS Academic, a minimum overall score of 7.0 is required, with at least 7.0 in listening, reading, and speaking, and at least 6.5 in writing. Other accepted tests include Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic, Occupational English Test (OET), TOEFL iBT for Australia, and Cambridge C1 Advanced or Cambridge C2 Proficiency. Applicants whose primary language is English and who completed education in English in a recognised country may also satisfy requirements.
The Master of Nursing (Research) is available to study full-time or part-time at the Joondalup campus or Online, with both Semester 1 and Semester 2 intakes. The course is also listed as available at City Campus, South West, Sri Lanka, and Online, though availability by semester and study mode may vary by location.
Graduates of the Master of Nursing (Research) will be able to: apply cognitive, technical and creative skills to explore and extend contemporary practice through research activities; apply communication and collaboration skills to analyse and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge in the field of nursing; reflect critically on a complex body of nursing knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery in the field of nursing; and use high-level self-management skills to plan and execute a substantial piece of research.
