Yes. The program is Australia's only dual-accredited Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice, giving graduates credentials recognised in both Australia and the United States. Graduates are eligible to join Dietitians Australia's Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) Program. The program is also accredited as a Foreign Dietitian Education Program (FDE) by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). To become a US Registered Dietitian, graduates will need to complete a program of supervised practice hours in the United States of America prior to being eligible to sit the Registered Dietitian Examination.
Students complete a total of 44 weeks of immersive internships, including 22 weeks of professional placements (including a two-week elective internship in an area of interest), 20 weeks of research internships, and a 2-week international field trip embedded in the program. Professional placements cover settings such as food service, community and public health nutrition, and medical nutrition therapy. Research internships are based in a workplace where nutrition research is conducted and involve qualitative and quantitative original research projects and systematic reviews.
The program is completed in just two years (6 semesters). It is an extended Level 9 Master's degree, described as the highest-level Nutrition and Dietetic Master's degree available in Australia, and can be completed in a compact timeframe of just two years.
Yes. All students will be required to participate in an international placement as part of their program. In Year 2, students undertake an International Nutrition Practice intensive, which includes a 2-week elective internship in an area of interest and an international internship — or a COVID-safe domestic alternative. Students apply their learnings to different settings including rural and urban both in Australia and globally (travel permitting). Past students have been involved in implementing public health nutrition programs in the Solomon Islands and giving nutrition presentations in Hong Kong.
Students learn in an industry-leading, custom teaching Kitchen Laboratory featuring an adjoining collaborative learning space and instructor bench with AV equipment to facilitate live cooking demonstrations, housed at the Bond Institute of Health and Sport. Students also have access to the Bond University Health and Wellness Clinic (BUHAWC), where they undertake practical internships under the direct supervision of a fully-qualified and accredited health professional.
