About This Course

The Master of Occupational Health and Safety provides students with an integrated teaching and research program, with the objective of promoting the highest level of safety and inspiring the next generation of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) professionals. The knowledge and skills developed throughout this course will allow you to confidently address complex workplace occupational health and safety issues through technical knowledge and application. This degree also has an emphasis on communication skills and techniques essential to effectively implement OH&S strategies. This degree has been developed in conjunction with industry to address the complex nature of occupational health and safety in the workplace. During the Master of Occupational Health and Safety, you will study advanced WHS risk management, applied human factors and ergonomics, industrial epidemiology and toxicology, occupational health and safety systems, work health and safety law, workplace hazards and hygiene, human and organisational performance. In the final stage of the degree, you will apply your knowledge and skills to a research-based capstone workplace project. This will give you a high level of evidence-based professional practice in occupational health and safety and allow application of those principles in a workplace setting. Fee subsidised places available The Master of Occupational Health and Safety has a flexible delivery mode combining online course content with three to five days of on campus block-teaching sessions focused on the exploration and application of the subject material. The on campus component utilises a range of campus resources, including UOW’s well-resourced OH&S laboratory.

General Requirements

Domestic Students

A recognised bachelor’s degree with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR A Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR Either a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Hygiene with an equivalent average mark of at least 65%.
Applicants with other relevant qualifications and/or work experience may also be considered.

Work and life experience:

Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognized pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

UOW recognises a range of overseas higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.
