About This Course

The Master of Occupational Health and Safety Extension provides students with an integrated teaching and research program, with the objective of promoting the highest level of safety, inspiring the next generation of professionals. This extension degree provides you with an opportunity to focus on health promotion or occupational health and safety (OH&S) research, enabling you to address complex workplace OH&S issues through specialised technical knowledge and application. During this degree you will study advanced WHS risk management, workplace hazards and hygiene, occupational health and safety systems, applied human factors and ergonomics, industrial epidemiology and toxicology, work health and safety law, industrial epidemiology and toxicology, health research methods. In the final year of the degree, you will apply your knowledge and skills to a research-based capstone workplace project, providing a high level of evidence-based professional practice in occupational health and safety. Fee subsidised places available This degree has a flexible delivery mode combining online course content with three to five days of on campus block teaching sessions focused on the exploration and application of the subject material. The on campus component utilises a range of campus resources, including UOW’s well-resourced OH&S laboratory.

General Requirements

Domestic Students

A recognised bachelor’s degree with an equivalent average mark of 50, OR A Master of Occupational Health and Safety with an equivalent average mark of 50, OR A Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with an equivalent average mark of 50, OR Either a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Hygiene with an equivalent average mark of at least 65.
Applicants with other relevant qualifications and/or work experience may also be considered.

Work and life experience:

Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognized pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.
