It is a mandated requirement of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and the Occupational Therapy Council (Australia and New Zealand) Ltd that all students undertake 1,000 hours of professional practice training, including 800 hours of work placements and at least 240 hours of other professional practice activities. Work placements are organised into three full-time blocks totalling 20 weeks. Swinburne organises the student placement program, and placements are undertaken in agencies providing short-term or long-term therapy in community or hospital settings, with clients across the lifespan.
Yes. The Master of Occupational Therapy is accredited by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC) and approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA). Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as an occupational therapist with the OTBA. The program is also approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
For 2026, the yearly international tuition fee is approximately AUD $47,960. For domestic full-fee paying students, the yearly fee is AUD $36,690 (total AUD $73,380), and Commonwealth Supported Place students pay AUD $9,537 per year (total AUD $19,074). Domestic students may be eligible for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP loans. International students at Swinburne are automatically considered for an international scholarship of up to 20% off course fees when they apply. Additionally, students attending placements will need to cover accreditation placement fees ranging from approximately $350 to $600.
No. Due to limited capacity, students will be unable to defer their place in this course.
Students must maintain a current Working with Children Check (from the Appropriate State Authority), an NDIS worker screen, and a current Police Check throughout the duration of the course. They are also required to provide up-to-date evidence of immunisations prior to attending placements, and may need additional immunisations in compliance with government policy or the specific requirements of the placement organisation. Students may also be required to complete an annual N95 Mask Fit Test prior to commencing placement, at their own cost.
