Master of Pharmacy

Yes. This course is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council and is approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia as a qualification leading to registration as a pharmacist in Australia. After graduating, you must also complete at least 1,575 hours (about a year full-time) of supervised professional practice to be eligible for general registration as a pharmacist.

Throughout your studies, you will complete clinical placements totalling a minimum of eight weeks (at least 300 hours). Placements may include interstate and overseas opportunities in hospital, community and other healthcare settings. You'll also learn how to administer vaccines.

The essential prerequisite subjects are Chemistry ATAR and Mathematics Applications ATAR. Desirable subjects include Human Biology ATAR or Biology ATAR. These prerequisites can also be met through specific Curtin units such as CHEM1003 Introduction to Chemistry, CHEM1001 Biological Chemistry, or CHEM1007 Fundamental Chemistry for Biosciences for Chemistry, and MATH1013 Introductory Mathematics, MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus, or MATH1015 Linear Algebra for Mathematics.

The 2026 domestic indicative Commonwealth-supported first-year fee is $9,600. This is based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credit points and is indicative only. It does not include other fees like administrative and incidental fees (such as lab coats or art supplies) or the cost of textbooks.

In the first year, you will learn the foundations of pharmaceutical science, physiology, human disease and pharmacy practice. You'll also learn interprofessional healthcare, studying alongside students from other health science disciplines. Later in the course you will study pharmaceutics (the science of dosage forms), biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology (how medicines work) and pharmacotherapy (treating disease with medicines).
