This is a research course and normally requires one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units, which will increase the course duration.
Students will learn to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on that knowledge and its application; investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories; generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level; design, use and evaluate research and research methods; present a coherent and sustained argument and disseminate research concepts, plans and results to the general community, peers and the national and international research community; and design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to two years of full-time equivalent study for Master of Philosophy programs.
The Master of Philosophy (Design and Built Environment) is offered on campus at Curtin Perth. Intake dates are available in Research Term 1 and Research Term 2 for both 2026 and 2027.
The CRICOS code for the Master of Philosophy (Design and Built Environment) at Curtin University is 107672D, and the Curtin course code is MR-DESBE.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
