Research Methods in IT
All School of Computer Science candidates need to complete this unit in their first semester of candidature. May be taken in Semester 1 or Semester 2.

Master of Philosophy candidates may undertake research in one of the following disciplines: aerospace engineering, mechanical and mechatronic engineering; biomedical engineering; chemical and biomolecular engineering; civil engineering; electrical and information engineering; computer science; and project management.
Computer science students are required to complete INFO5993 Research Methods in IT in their first semester of candidature. There is no separate tuition fee cost for the coursework units of study you will undertake — it is part of the tuition fee for the course. HDR students can also take additional coursework units that accelerate their research by providing foundational knowledge in an area relevant to their project.
There are four research periods with the following start dates: Research Period 1 starting 1 January, Research Period 2 starting 1 March, Research Period 3 starting 1 July, and Research Period 4 starting 1 October.
If you identify a suitable research supervisor, you should contact them by email and provide your academic transcript(s), an up-to-date CV, and a short statement about what research topics you are interested in and how this aligns with your career ambitions. If you have not secured a supervisor, you can complete the Application form selecting 'Do you need help finding a supervisor and want to submit an EOI', and you will be contacted by email if a prospective supervisor wishes to discuss MPhil projects with you.
