The course normally requires two years of full-time study. It is also available in part-time mode. The stated course duration may be longer for students required to undertake relevant preparatory units.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. The IELTS Academic requirements are: Writing 6, Speaking 6, Reading 6, Listening 6, and an Overall band score of 6.5. You may also demonstrate English proficiency using other accepted tests and qualifications.
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP): up to two years of full-time equivalent study for Master of Philosophy programs.
You will learn to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on that knowledge and its application; investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories; generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level; design, use and evaluate research and research methods; present a coherent and sustained argument; and design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.
The course is offered at Curtin Perth, with on-campus delivery available in both Research Term 1 and Research Term 2 in 2026.
