Master of Philosophy (Geophysics)

The Master of Philosophy (Geophysics) takes 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time to complete.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. The IELTS Academic requirements are: an overall band score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening components. English proficiency may also be demonstrated using other accepted tests and qualifications.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to two years of full-time equivalent study for Master of Philosophy programs.

Yes. Upon completion of a master by research degree, you may apply to be considered for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.

At least two-thirds of the study program must involve research. Although some coursework units may be required, the main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). Your thesis must be a substantial original contribution to the knowledge or understanding of any field through the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories, or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas, and must demonstrate your capacity to conceive, design and complete independent research.
