The Master of Philosophy (Health Studies) encompasses the disciplines of Drug and Alcohol research, Human Communication Science, Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy Practice, Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Social Work.
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), covering up to two years of full-time equivalent study for Master of Philosophy programs.
Applicants require a relevant degree with a semester weighted average (SWA) of 70 per cent or better, or an equivalent qualification. Applicants with a SWA of less than 70 per cent, or whose previous degree(s) are not in the intended area of research, will be required to undertake appropriate bridging units.
Students will learn to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on its application, investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, generate and evaluate complex ideas at an abstract level, design and evaluate research methods, present a coherent and sustained argument, and design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice.
This course is by research and normally requires one to two years full-time or equivalent part-time study, with a standard duration of two years full-time.
