About This Course

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is designed for students who want to advance their career in the accounting profession. The learning experience and knowledge areas for this program are focused on the practice of accounting. The course first introduces the fundamental principles of accounting, economics and aspects of the economic system and then proceeds to the study of specific knowledge areas which are vital for accounting professionals. You will develop knowledge and skills to apply accounting principles in the preparation and interpretation of financial statements. Equipped with an understanding of accounting principles, taxation law and the tax implications of business activities, you will also undertake research into current accounting issues. Additionally, this degree provides the opportunity to network with your peers, members of the local business community and alumni with a number of social and semi-formal events. You can combine a Master of Professional Accounting with another business master's degree through our double master’s program. Students who complete this program will earn two master’s degrees in two years and build expertise in two in demand areas of business. General Requirements

Domestic Students

A recognised bachelor’s degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Accounting with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR A recognised master’s degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%.
Other tertiary qualifications, combined with extensive professional work experience, will be considered.

Work and life experience:

Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognized pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications:

UOW recognises a range of overseas higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

English language proficiency:

All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.

Can I combine the Master of Professional Accounting with another degree?

Yes, you can combine a Master of Professional Accounting with another business master's degree through UOW's double master's program. One available combination is the Master of Business Analytics – Master of Professional Accounting. Students who complete this program will earn two master's degrees in two years and build expertise in two in-demand areas of business.

What are the fees for the Master of Professional Accounting?

The indicative session fee for 2026 is $12,564 and the total indicative course fee is $50,258 for a full-fee paying place at the Wollongong campus. In 2026, domestic students may be eligible for either a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or a UOW-subsidised fee reduction of up to 75% off the fees listed.

When can I apply and what are the application deadlines?

For Trimester 1 2026, the international application deadline is 18 November 2025 and the domestic (direct) deadline is 31 December 2025. For Trimester 3 2026, the international deadline is 2 June 2026 and the domestic (direct) deadline is 30 June 2026.

Yes. If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.
