About This Course

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is designed for students who want to advance their career in the accounting profession. The learning experience and knowledge areas for this program are focused on the practice of accounting. The course first introduces the fundamental principles of accounting, economics and aspects of the economic system and then proceeds to the study of specific knowledge areas which are vital for accounting professionals. You will develop knowledge and skills to apply accounting principles in the preparation and interpretation of financial statements. Equipped with an understanding of accounting principles, taxation law and the tax implications of business activities, you will also undertake research into current accounting issues. Additionally, this degree provides the opportunity to network with your peers, members of the local business community and alumni with a number of social and semi-formal events. You can combine a Master of Professional Accounting with another business master's degree through our double master's program. Students who complete this program will earn two master's degrees in two years and build expertise in two in demand areas of business.

Requirements

A recognised bachelor's degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR
A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Accounting with an equivalent average mark of 50%, OR
A recognised master's degree in any discipline with an equivalent average mark of 50%.
Other tertiary qualifications, combined with extensive professional work experience, will be considered.
If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements. Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, the English language requirement can be fulfilled by completing an English course at UOW College.

What are the fees for the Master of Professional Accounting?

The indicative session fee for 2026 is $12,564 and the total indicative course fee is $50,258 for a full-fee paying place at the Wollongong campus. In 2026, domestic students may be eligible for either a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or a UOW-subsidised fee reduction of up to 75% off the fees listed.

When can I apply and what are the application deadlines?

For Trimester 1 2026, the international application deadline is 18 November 2025 and the domestic (direct) deadline is 31 December 2025. For Trimester 3 2026, the international deadline is 2 June 2026 and the domestic (direct) deadline is 30 June 2026.

Can I receive credit for prior learning or study?

Yes. If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program. UOW values lifelong learning and recognises various types of prior learning, regardless of how or where it was obtained.
