About This Course

MHE's Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) equips you to empower and expand your business. You will learn to gather and analyse financial data. You will learn to comply with financial regulations and accounting standards. You will develop the sound judgement required to prepare and interpret financial reports targeted at different stakeholders. The expertise available here includes advisory services, taxation, auditing, financial planning, international accounting, investment analysis and strategic planning. You will not focus only on providing financial information. You will also examine broader social and impacts of your business. You will learn to consider ethical governance and environmental factors and their role in sustaining your business. This course is accredited by Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).

Eligibility

Entry Requirements

Requirements

A bachelor's degree (AQF 7) (or equivalent) in any discipline from a recognised higher education provider or university with a satisfactory completion of all units.
Minimum of five years' work experience in accounting or a related field, at least two years of which must have been in a management position, accompanied by a portfolio and detailed résumé.
An Advanced Diploma (AQF 6) (or equivalent) in any cognate discipline from a recognised higher education provider or university plus at least two years' work experience in accounting or a related field, accompanied by a portfolio and detailed résumé.
Completion of a Graduate Certificate (AQF 8) in a cognate discipline.

English Requirements (if previous education was not completed in English, dated not less than two years before the date of application):

IELTS Academic score of at least 6·5 with a score of at least 6·0 in each macro-skill.
TOEFL (paper based) score of at least 575.
TOEFL iBT score of at least 80, with macro-skill scores of at least: Listening – 11, Speaking – 16, Reading – 11, Writing – 20.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of at least 58 with no macro-skill score less than 50.
Cambridge C1 Advanced English Test level B2, with an overall score of 176 and no macro-skill score less than 169.
Or any other academic English language proficiency test considered equivalent by MHE.

Can I fast-track the Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced)?

Yes, the course can be fast-tracked to 1 year and 4 months by completing optional fifth and sixth study blocks each year, in addition to the standard four blocks per year. The standard duration is 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time.

Can I receive advanced standing (credit) for prior learning or work experience?

Yes, you may apply for advanced standing when you enrol, providing evidence of prior education or on-the-job learning. Eligibility for advanced standing in the Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) is normally limited to a maximum of eight units in the first two trimesters.

The 2026 starting dates for the Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) are 15th March, 3rd May, 5th July, 23rd August, 25th October, or 9th January (2027).
