Master of Professional Psychology

The Master of Professional Psychology (MPP) represents the first year of the "5+1" pathway to general registration as a psychologist. The course prepares graduates of an APAC-accredited fourth-year psychology course, who are eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, to meet the core capabilities and attributes required for practice.

Designed specifically to meet APAC and PsyBA guidelines, the MPP provides a level of education in professional psychology that supports applying for the Board's "5+1 internship model" toward general registration with AHPRA. Eight core competencies are covered across units in ethics and professional practice, psychological assessment and psychotherapy, treatment, and applied needs analysis, alongside pre-placement competency workshops and 300 hours of supervised practicum (including an industry placement or equivalent, individual and group supervision, and simulated learning experiences).

All units can be completed at the Hawthorn East campus, entirely online, or as a mix of both. Graduates are eligible for direct entry to Cairnmillar's Master of Professional Psychology Practice (MPPP), a fully supported internship year unique to Cairnmillar.
