Common Questions
The Master of Professional Psychology takes 8 months (2 semesters) to complete, making it the fastest pathway to your career as a registered practising psychologist. However, upon completion students will be required to undertake an additional year of approved supervised practice, resulting in a total of six years of education and training to be eligible for registration as a practising Psychologist.
Students gain more than 300 hours of supervised clinical practice, working with real-life clients at Bond's on-campus Psychology Clinic. Bond's own teaching clinic is similar to a medical teaching hospital and has been providing counselling services to the Gold Coast community since 1999. Students also have extended access to the Psychology Test Library and the Cognitive Research Labs.
Applicants will need to have completed the accredited four-year sequence of a Bachelor's degree and a Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science or the Honours year. At Bond, this sequence can be completed in 2 years and 8 months. Applicants will also need to apply for provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) before commencing the master's program.
Yes, coursework and placements require students to attend in person on campus and at external placement locations. Subjects are delivered via weekly classes and an intensive teaching mode, requiring weekend attendance.
In Semester 1, students study four subjects consisting of advanced psychology subject matter, such as psychotherapies, clinical skills, professional practice, and ethics. In Semester 2, students study a further two coursework subjects consisting of psychopathology and therapy studies, as well as completing the required 300 hours of professional experience and practice.
