Common Questions
The Master of Professional Psychology is part of the 5+1 pathway to general psychology registration. After completing this 1 year full-time program, graduates are eligible to commence an additional internship year under the supervision of a registered psychologist. Graduates who complete the additional year and pass the National Psychology Exam are eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia as a generally registered psychologist.
All students will complete 300 hours of practical experience, including external placements with a Board Approved Supervisor. The Placement Coordinator supports each student to identify and secure all placement opportunities, and the University of Newcastle has an excellent collaborative relationship with the Hunter New England Local Health District which aids in facilitating placements, research projects and future employment prospects.
All applicants must demonstrate an IELTS overall minimum score of 7, with no section (subtest) below 7. Most applicants who have completed their undergraduate study within Australia will meet this requirement automatically.
This program may be eligible for subsidised tuition through Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP). Additionally, as a commencing student in this degree, you may be eligible for the Tertiary Health Study Subsidy, which could secure up to $12,000 to support your health studies through NSW Health. There are also two CSP places in the Master of Professional Psychology given preferentially to the highest-ranking Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
Applicants must submit: 100 points of identification, evidence of English Language Proficiency (IELTS 7.0 overall with no subtest below 7.0), colour or certified copies of official academic transcripts and other relevant documentation, a detailed Curriculum Vitae, the email address linked to the Psychology Reference Portal, two referee reports via the Psychology Reference Portal, and a completed Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology Admission Portfolio. International or overseas-educated applicants must also provide evidence of APS assessment of their qualifications as equivalent to the APAC 4th Year Psychology Sequence.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
