Common Questions
The Master of Professional Psychology is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and approved by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA). Upon completing the course, graduates have the competencies to complete a required year of supervised psychology practice at a professional internship of their choice, outside the university. After completing this final internship year, graduates become eligible to sit the National Psychology Exam and apply for general registration as a psychologist with the PsyBA through the '5+1 internship model'.
Over two practicum units, students undertake at least 300 hours of supervised work placement at VU Psychology Clinic, providing psychological services to members of a culturally diverse community seeking support for a range of mental health issues. Students can also apply for a placement at the Orygen outpost to gain experience in providing early interventions for youth mental health. Additionally, several units include role-playing practitioner-client interactions in different contexts to prepare students for supporting real clients.
The VU Block Model® is VU's award-winning approach where students complete one subject at a time over four weeks, rather than juggling several subjects at once. Learning takes place in workshop-style classes, allowing students to develop strong connections with peers and practical skills. Students also receive fast feedback on assignments, helping them improve quickly as they progress through the course.
No. Deferring commencement is not possible because of the competitive nature of this course and the limited number of places available. If you are unable to start in the intake that you have been offered, you will need to reapply for the next available intake.
The Master of Professional Psychology is a full-fee course, meaning it is not government subsidised and students pay the total cost of each unit. The indicative fees for a full-time student are AU$34,500 per year. In addition to tuition fees, students will also need to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
