Common Questions
The Master of Professional Psychology provides the fifth year in the 5+1 pathway to general registration. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to complete a one-year internship leading to general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. The course is a Level 3 Program accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
In first semester, students receive intensive on-campus training in the application of psychology to the assessment and treatment of mental health issues, with an emphasis on both knowledge and practical skills. In second semester, students work off-campus on placement in the community (such as in the School Psychology Service) while completing online studies. Students must pass all first semester units before commencing the PSYC5578 placement unit.
Yes. The UWA course has been specifically designed to prepare students to work in rural and remote locations. Students will have the same qualification as any other 5th year graduate, but their skills will be honed with an awareness of how psychologists work in regional and remote areas.
Applicants must submit certified academic transcripts (for studies outside UWA), a personal statement via an online form, two referee reports submitted through the Psychology Reference Portal (note: there is a subscription cost of AUD$55 to use this portal), and a curriculum vitae detailing relevant occupational or practical experience. Eligible applicants will also be invited to attend an interview assessing personal qualities considered desirable in psychology. International applicants must also provide an assessment of their overseas qualifications from the Australian Psychological Society.
Graduates commonly gain employment in private practices, the school psychology service in the Department of Education, and in some government services. Many graduates also go on to apply for positions in Clinical, Clinical Neuropsychology, and Industrial and Organisational Masters programs. After completing the course, graduates are eligible to undertake a one-year internship leading to general registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
