Master of Psychology - Clinical

Students must complete a minimum of 1,000 supervised practicum hours in the UNSW Psychology Clinic and at least two other external field placement settings. Placement options include adult mental health, psychiatry, consult-liaison, medical psychology, developmental disability, neuropsychology, child and family, psychogeriatric, schools and general community health settings, involving assessing and treating clients under the supervision of clinical staff.

The Master of Psychology (Clinical) totals 96 Units of Credit (48 per stage/year) and consists of three compulsory components: Coursework — weekly lectures and seminars with written assessment (42 UOC); Professional Practice — a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised practice (36 UOC); and a Research Thesis in the format of a journal article (18 UOC). The program must be completed full-time over two years; part-time study while working full-time is not possible.

Yes, the program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as the fifth and sixth years of study. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA). After completing a PsyBA-approved Clinical Psychology registrar program (typically a further 88 weeks of supervised practice), graduates are also eligible to apply for area of practice endorsement in Clinical Psychology.
