Master of Public Health

Domestic Students

• A bachelor’s degree (AQF 7 or recognised overseas equivalent) plus one of the following:
• A one-year honours degree
• A graduate certificate
• A graduate diploma
• A master’s or higher degree
• At least one of these qualifications must be in a field relevant to public health* with a minimum WAM or 65% in at least one of these qualifications. OR A bachelor’s degree (AQF 7 or recognised overseas equivalent) with a minimum WAM of 65%, plus significant professional or volunteer experience in a field relevant to public health (equivalent to two years full-time). ** OR A MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) of four or more years duration. OR A UOW Graduate Certificate in Public Health with a minimum WAM of 65%.

• Examples of relevant fields include allied health (nutrition science, dietetics, exercise science, psychology, optometry), behavioural and social sciences, biomedical sciences, dentistry, development studies, emergency services, environmental health, health administration, health sciences, human services, medicine, nursing, policy studies, sociology, veterinary science.

• ** Examples of relevant fields include allied health (nutrition science, dietetics, exercise science, psychology, optometry), medicine, nursing, occupational health and safety, social work.

Note:

• Entry to the Public Health Research specialisation requires a minimum WAM of 75%.
• Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may be offered the Graduate Certificate in Public Health as a pathway into the Master of Public Health. Qualifications in other disciplines may be considered.

Work and life experience:

• Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognized pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications:

• UOW recognises a range of overseas higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

English language proficiency:

• All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
• Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
• Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.

International Students

Academic Entry Requirements:

• To succeed in your chosen course, you should have completed relevant subjects in senior high school or other qualifications. For more information, refer to UOW's Entry Requirements page.

• The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:
