About This Course

The Master of Public Health Advanced is an extended postgraduate degree from Torrens University Australia designed for health professionals seeking advanced knowledge and skills in public health practice, policy and research. The course builds on existing knowledge to better equip graduates to address public health issues, with an emphasis on the social determinants of health and reducing inequalities for vulnerable populations globally, and is particularly suited to international students seeking advanced study in the field. Learning outcomes include applying local and global health awareness to public health challenges, designing and applying intervention strategies to detect, prevent and control disease, and applying systematic research skills to public health practice. In the second year, students choose a specialisation in either Digital Health and Informatics or Design Thinking, plus a selection of electives.

The course is CAPHIA-accredited, with graduates eligible to apply for Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) membership. It is delivered on campus over 2 years full time (part-time options available) across Torrens University's Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide campuses, with intakes in September 2026, and February, May and September 2027.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

AQF Level 7 (Bachelor degree) or above OR
A combination of formal (below AQF7) or non-formal qualifications, plus seven years' relevant experience in a health professional role

International students:

Australian bachelor's degree or equivalent AND
Academic IELTS 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each band), or equivalent Alternative entry may include assessment of prior study or completion of a readiness assessment.
