Master of Public Health (Global Health and Advocacy)

ACU's Master of Public Health (Global Health and Advocacy) equips graduates with specialised knowledge, understanding and skills in public health to improve and advance population health and wellbeing, and prepares them to practise with a community, national or global focus and an ethical, social justice perspective. Global health is a uniquely ACU specialisation and an increasingly important area of work for public health practitioners; students who plan to focus on it take the global health and advocacy specialisation during their second year, gaining the knowledge, skills and experience to practise effectively in the evolving professional landscape of global health. The specialisation concentrates on global health, sustainable development, food security and humanitarian assistance, and develops advocacy skills so that graduates can influence positive change as well as implement it, with the UN Sustainable Development Goals placed at its centre. The course totals 160 credit points: 80 credit points of specified public health units, including Foundations of Public Health, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Indigenous Health, Health Promotion, Australian Health Care Systems, Disease Prevention and Management and Public Health Law and Policy, and 80 credit points of specialisation units taken through either a Research Stream or a Project Stream. Project Stream units include Global Health and Sustainable Development, Humanitarian Assistance and Health, Global Nutrition and Food Security, Health Advocacy, Preparation for Practice and Practice Placement, the last two being community engagement units. Study options include full-time or part-time, on-campus or online study, and intensive teaching schedules including weekends. Units are delivered in multi-mode over two years at ACU's Melbourne campus.
