Master of Research (Fine Arts)

You will learn to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on that knowledge and its application, investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories, generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level, design, use and evaluate research and research methods, communicate and present a coherent and sustained argument, and design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who are successful applicants of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program are eligible for a tuition fee exemption under the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP), for up to two years of full-time equivalent study for Master of Philosophy programs.

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. For this course, the IELTS Academic requirements are: Overall band score of 6.5, Writing 7.0, Speaking 6.0, Reading 7.0, and Listening 6.5. Applicants may also demonstrate English proficiency using other accepted tests and qualifications.

The Master of Research (Fine Arts) is offered at Curtin Perth. For 2026, both Research Term 1 and Research Term 2 are available on campus and online.

The course takes one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study, with the standard full-time duration being 2 years.
