Master of Science

Students are required to generate a substantial contribution to knowledge in their chosen area in the form of a thesis of up to 50,000 words, making them an expert in their field and advancing their career prospects.

Although the focus of the degree is on research, students will also complete at least one unit of coursework as part of the program.

To meet the English language proficiency requirements, applicants must demonstrate at least one of the following: a bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country, an IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band score less than 6.0) or equivalent, or other evidence of English language proficiency.

Yes, the Master of Science can be studied either full-time or part-time. The standard duration is 2 years full-time or part-time equivalent. Students may also be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track their degree, however the course duration may be extended if there are delays in meeting course requirements.

The Master of Science is available at three campus locations: Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), and Warrnambool. It is also available online, and Deakin offers a blend of online and on-campus learning to help students balance work, study and personal development.
