Common Questions
You can choose to focus on any of the bioscience disciplines offered, including ecology, evolution, environmental science, genetics, genomics, development, or plant science, and complement your discipline-specific subject choices and research project with professional skills subjects.
The defining feature of the Master of Science (BioSciences) is a major research project in your study area, where you'll be supervised by one of the University of Melbourne's renowned researchers, who work on everything from sensory ecology to aquaculture technology and plant pathology.
Yes, in addition to your major research project — where you'll develop and apply scientific tools to real-world problems in a lab, out in the field, or on a computer — you can also choose to complete an internship in a science or technology-related workplace for course credit.
Your research experience might inspire you to continue to a PhD, or you can put your analytical and communication skills to use in the global workforce, alongside many of the course's alumni.
The course has two intake periods — March and July — and takes 2 years to complete full time or 4 years part time, and is delivered on campus at Parkville.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
