Master of Social Work (Qualifying)

Entry requirements 2-year degree (192 units) – Trimester 1 or 2 entry Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) that includes the equivalent of at least one year of full-time studies in social and behavioural sciences. 1.5 year degree (144 units) - reduced volume of learning pathway ** – Trimester 1 entry only Applicants must hold: - a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) that includes the equivalent of at least one year of full-time studies in social and behavioural sciences; and - have successfully completed a Bachelor of Human Services, Bachelor of Community Services, Bachelor of Counselling, or Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with dissertation or equivalent qualifications which contain at least 500 hours of field education/work integrated learning. ** Applicants approved for this pathway will receive a reduced volume of learning of 48 units: - For graduates of Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with dissertation: SWK700 and SCS725 - For graduates of Bachelor of Human Services or Bachelor of Community Services or Bachelor of Counselling or equivalent programs: SWK700 and one of the following depending on previous study: SWK703 , SCS730 or SWK785 . This will be determined on a case-by-case basis when the application is assessed for admission. English language requirements You will also need to meet the English language requirements for this program. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, you may be able to enrol in our English Language Programs to reach the required level for most of UniSC’s programs (exceptions apply to non-standard English requirement programs). Special selection criteria Applicants must also complete a Personal Statement form. Offers will be made based on academic qualifications and personal statement, which are evaluated holistically by a small team of teaching staff. Applicants may also be required to attend an interview. Post admission requirements A student’s enrolment in field education will be conditional upon the following: • the student’s eligibility for a Blue Card at the time of the first enrolment in the program • maintenance of that eligibility throughout the entire program • acquisition of a Blue Card prior to commencement of field education cable Additional entry information Applicants from a non-English speaking background should refer to the English language requirements for further information. If an applicant's prior degree has not specifically addressed foundational knowledge of sociology and psychology, they may be required to undertake additional foundational study as determined by the School of Law and Society (usually the Program Coordinator of Master of Social Work (Qualifying)), including: SCS110 Introduction to Sociology: Society, Culture and Change SCS101 Human Behaviour in the Social Environment, PSY100 Introduction to Psychology A, or PSY101 Introduction to Psychology B Inherent academic requirements Prospective students must consider the Inherent Academic Requirements before applying to study this program.
