You will complete a total of 60 days of placement and 20 days of integrated coursework days in school settings. You will undertake a placement in each of the first three phases of your degree, alongside your coursework. In the fourth and final phase of your degree, you will undertake a 20-day capstone experience in a school or a community-based service-learning experience. The course also requires a minimum of 311 hours of work-integrated learning (WIL) activities in total.
You must have successfully completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree with a minimum of 6 subjects in one teaching area (two at third year level) and 4 subjects in a second teaching area relevant to the Australian secondary school curriculum, especially English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, technologies, humanities, languages, and industrial technology and design (manual arts). All applicants must also satisfy both academic and non-academic entry criteria, and if your native language is not English, you must meet the minimum English language requirements.
Yes. As a graduate of the Master of Teaching and Learning (Secondary), you will be eligible for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. However, all students enrolled in an Initial Teacher Education course must achieve the required standard for both the Literacy and Numeracy Tests for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE).
The estimated annual tuition fee is AUD $34,649, plus a Student Services and Amenities Fee, for a full-time study load. Course fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change. Scholarships and financial aid are available for eligible students.
The Master of Teaching and Learning (Secondary) is offered at JCU's Townsville and Cairns campuses, with both commencing in February. The course is delivered over 2 years full-time.
