About This Course

Our Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) is specifically designed to give you the practical tools, inspiration and direction to achieve your dreams of becoming an early-childhood or primary school teacher. Offering a mix of on-campus theory and innovative school-based placements, our aim is to produce teachers with strong academic knowledge and skills, excellence in professional practice, commitment to equity and social justice, and dedication to personal and professional growth. With this degree, you can choose either an early exit to become a degree early-childhood (Birth-5 Year) teacher or complete an additional six months to graduate with a primary-school teaching degree as well (Birth-12). To help you juggle your busy work, career and personal life, Western also offers flexible study options. You may be eligible for an accelerated study mode to complete your degree sooner. This program has been accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as meeting all initial teacher education accreditation standards including the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the Graduate Teacher level. This program has also been approved by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) is a postgraduate teaching qualification providing you with the flexibility to teach in both early childhood education, care settings and primary schools (Kindergarten to Year 6). General Requirements

English Language Proficiency: An Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Report Form (TRF) that shows: - an overall score of 7.5 with: - a score of at least 7.0 for Reading and Writing; and - score of at least 8.0 for Speaking and Listening. The IELTS test scores must appear on a single IELTS TRF and be the result of a test undertaken during the 24-month period prior to submitting an application. Or 2. An applicant has completed study assessed by AITSL as comparable to at least four years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) study, that results in a qualification/s comparable to the education level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher (must include a recognised initial teacher education qualification) undertaken in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States. Details of acceptable proof are available in the WSU International website. https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/international/studying/entry-requirements Applicants who do not meet this requirement, may be considered to satisfy English Language requirements if they have: • Completed a recognised qualification (senior secondary studies or at least two years of tertiary studies) delivered in English in one of the countries identified on this website. • Completed a minimum of two years continuous full time professional experience in an English-speaking environment in a country identified on this website.
Tertiary Education: Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline. Applicants wishing to graduate with a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) must have at least eight subjects of study in a curriculum area (equivalent of one year of study) in their undergraduate degree in order to meet the curriculum requirements of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Applicants must meet the Mathematics requirements for a Primary teaching: Band 4 or equivalent in an HSC Mathematics course Or completion of a mathematics discipline content subject in undergraduate degree Or satisfactory completion of WSU Mathematics Bridging Course for Master of Teaching (Primary) or Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) programs.
