Major: A total of three-quarters of a year of successful full-time higher education study, usually comprising sequential discipline study taken over three years. In most Australian programs this equates to six units, with no more than two at first year level and no less than two units at third year level. Minor: A total of half a year of successful full-time higher education study, usually comprising sequential discipline studies taken over two years. In most Australian programs this equates to four units, with no more than two at first year level. The specialist areas for which you are eligible are the disciplines in which you specialise for your study. Literacy and numeracy test Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is a national test required by the Federal Government that all pre-service teachers must complete to be able to graduate and register as a teacher. The test is administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Please note that you are required to be physically in Australia to undertake this test at a test centre. Counselling and support for those failing the test will be available. You are able to sit the LANTITE before you enrol in your degree. You must successfully complete your LANTITE by the end of your first year of studies. You are required to complete an English language competency test only if you have completed any of your initial teacher education program studies outside of Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland. Accepted tests include the IELTS Academic Module and the ISLPR Professional/Teacher Registration Module.
The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) requires the following minimum scores in the IELTS Academic Module: Speaking – 8.0, Listening – 8.0, Reading – 7.0, and Writing – 7.0. Applicants must reach the required score in each individual skill area regardless of their overall score.
Test results are valid for two (2) years from the date listed on the certificate issued by the accredited testing centre.
Yes, the VIT accepts IELTS One Skill Retake results, which allow applicants to retake any one component of the test without retaking the full test. This option is only available if you book the component within 60 days of undertaking the initial test and your delivery format is 'IELTS on a computer'.
No, the VIT does not accept IELTS Online test results. The IELTS must be taken at a test centre with a delivery format of either 'IELTS on a computer' or 'IELTS on paper'.
