Master of Teaching (Secondary)

Domestic students

• An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have successfully completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a major study that meets the content requirements in at least one secondary teaching area offered by ACU. VICTORIA ONLY: applicants must demonstrate suitability for teaching as evidenced by completion of the relevant state/jurisdiction assessment, which is provided in the application process.
• Applicants to this initial teacher education course must also complete a non-academic assessment demonstrating suitability for teaching, which forms part of the admission application.
• Admission to the Internship specialisation requires the applicant to be from an approved sponsored cohort and to meet the Master of Teaching (Secondary) course entry requirements. Admission to the 'All Points to Teaching' program requires the applicant to meet that program's employment-based criteria in addition to the course entry requirements.
• The number of places available in some teaching areas may be limited by the availability of appropriate professional experience placements and the capacity of partner schools to support pre-service teachers.
• Applicants who completed Bachelor degrees outside Australia should review the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy to determine whether additional English Language Proficiency requirements apply, and applicants seeking teacher registration in Australia should confirm English Language Proficiency requirements with the relevant state registration body.
• All enrolled students must hold the appropriate approval before entering a classroom: a Blue Card (Queensland), Working with Vulnerable People Registration (ACT), Working with Children Check (New South Wales, Western Australia and Victoria), Working with Children Clearance (Northern Territory), or Police Record Check (South Australia and Tasmania).
• ACU also assigns a new selection rank to applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above, and credit or recognition of prior learning may be granted for relevant prior study or work experience.

International students

• International applicants need an Australian three-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent, and must nominate two subject areas that, based on their bachelor studies, they believe they are qualified to teach; the Faculty of Education and Arts assesses suitability for these methods during the admissions process.
• English language requirements: IELTS with no score less than 7 in reading and writing and no score less than 8 in listening and speaking. ACU also accepts PTE (a minimum of 65 in reading and writing and 79 in listening and speaking), TOEFL Academic (no score less than 24 in reading, 27 in writing, 28 in listening and 26 in speaking), the ACU English Language Test at A++ (85 or above), or C1 Advanced (a minimum of 185 in reading and writing and 200 in listening and speaking).
• International students must bring police check documentation from their own country, and all students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period. A National Police check may be required to meet the requirements for working in settings other than schools.
