Common Questions
Students are required to complete 85 days of supervised practicum as part of the Professional Experience Program (PEP). Placements are available in Christian, state and independent schooling sectors in both urban and regional settings, with students generally placed in Brisbane and south-east Queensland, though placements are available further afield. Students experience at least one placement outside Brisbane and are encouraged to consider rural placements. A valid Blue Card is required to engage in the program.
The course prepares graduates to teach in two teaching areas from Years 7-12. Available teaching areas include English, Sciences, Business, Religious Education, Design and Technology, Digital Technologies, Mathematics, Humanities, Creative and Performing Arts, Health and Physical Education, Languages, and Curriculum Studies. Your eligible teaching areas are determined by the content of your prior undergraduate studies.
Students must pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE), as administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), in order to progress to the second year (full-time equivalent) of the course. This is a mandatory requirement for all initial teacher education students in Australia.
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) consists of three strands: Christian Education, Education Studies, and Curriculum, Learning and Teaching. In planning their courses, students must consult the Education Courses Guide for information regarding course rules and requirements, including unit prerequisite requirements.
For applicants for whom English is not their first language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 7.5 overall is required, with at least 8.0 for Listening and Speaking, and at least 7.0 for Reading and Writing. Alternatively, an ISLPR score of 4 in each skill area is accepted if administered by ISLPR Language Services in Mt Gravatt, Queensland. English test results must be no more than two years old at course commencement. Applicants who have completed at least two years of senior secondary or accredited higher education studies in English in Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United States or United Kingdom are exempt from these requirements.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
