Common Questions
All applicants are required to have a discipline-specific bachelor or equivalent qualification relevant to the Australian Curriculum or other recognised areas of school provision. Applicants must demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge in a particular discipline to enrol in a major area of specialisation and intermediate skills for a minor area of specialisation, and must provide a resume. Professional experience cannot be accepted as an alternative to completing a bachelor degree.
The course takes 2 years full-time or part-time equivalent. However, students have the opportunity to complete a fast-tracked final year and achieve eligibility for employment in schools from Term 4 of that year. If students wish to complete the course in 18 months, they will be required to complete some units in summer school and winter school, as well as possibly overloading in one or two semesters.
Students must select two specialisations — one major and one minor. Available specialisations include Art Education, Dance Education, Design and Technology Education, Digital Technology Education, Drama Education, English Education, Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics, Health and Physical Education, Health Education, Humanities and Social Sciences Education, Instrumental Music Education, Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Learning Enrichment: Students with Additional Needs, Mathematics Education, Media Education, Music Education, Science Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Note that Health Studies and TESOL are only available as minor areas of study, and Instrumental Music is only available as a minor and only for students completing Music as their major.
International students must attain an IELTS Academic with an average level of 7.5 or more across the four components of listening, speaking, reading and writing; no score below level 7.0 in any component; and a score of 8.0 or more in the components of speaking and listening. English competency requirements may also be satisfied through completion of a bachelor degree or master degree from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA, or an undergraduate degree taught in English from a South African University.
In Year 2 Semester 2, all students must complete Final Professional Practice (PPA6460) and Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA6130). In addition, students must choose one of three options: Option 1 (Professional Learning - Research Mode) comprising Educational Research (RES6101) and Introduction to Research and Advanced Academic Writing (EDU6195); Option 2 (Professional Learning - Internship Mode) comprising School-based Professional Learning: Internship (SPL6157); or Option 3 (Professional Learning - Graduate Certificate Mode) where, in consultation with the Course Coordinator, students select two Graduate Certificate of Education units totalling 30 credit points.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
