With a greater reliance on technology, it’s important that you are equipped with the skills and knowledge to teach to the future. Western’s newly developed Master of Teaching (STEM) prepares you to inspire the high school students of tomorrow. This degree explores the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and prepares you to meet the demands of the 21st century. You will learn how to inspire your secondary-school students to actively participate in and embrace these vital areas of learning. Get ready to teach tomorrow and beyond. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) STEM is a professional teaching qualification for students possessing an appropriate degree program. When you graduate, you’ll be eligible to register with the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA). Graduates meet the Australian Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers. It will prepare you for a career in secondary school settings teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in NSW, other Australian states and internationally. The degree offers deep engagement in secondary STEM education, focusing on innovative, evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. Developing a strong pedagogical content knowledge and understanding culturally-responsive teaching practices will prepare you for your teaching career. With an emphasis on assisting diverse learners to access learning experiences, effective classroom management strategies, assessment and feedback, You will have the skills to succeed.

General Requirements

Additional Selection Criteria (ie, to cover interviews, auditions, portfolios): Applicants are required to successfully complete the non-academic capability assessment.
English Language Proficiency: International students who did not complete their undergraduate degree in Australia must also meet English Language proficiency requirements and must provide evidence to satisfy the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) as in the following An Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Report Form (TRF) that shows an overall score of at least 7.5 and: a score of at least 7.0 for Reading and Writing; and a score of at least 8.0 for Speaking and Listening. The IELTS test scores must appear on a single IELTS TRF and be the result of a test undertaken during the 12-month period prior to submitting an application. Or An applicant has completed study assessed by AITSL as comparable to at least four years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) study, that results in a qualification/s comparable to the education level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher (must include a recognised initial teacher education qualification) undertaken in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States.
