Common Questions
In the Master of TESOL you will study a combination of practical and theoretical units which develop your basic skills in TESOL and improve your English language awareness. You will explore theories which underpin English language teaching, gain confidence using technology in your teaching, better understand the role of language in society, and study special topics such as Global Englishes. You will also develop your research skills, undertaking a research project in your final year.
You must meet Curtin's English language requirements for this course. The required IELTS Academic scores are: Writing 6, Speaking 6, Reading 6, Listening 6, and an Overall band score of 6.5. If you've completed a different English test or qualification, you may be able to use it to meet this requirement — check accepted English tests, qualifications and required scores on Curtin's English language requirements page.
The 2026 domestic fee-paying first-year indicative fee is $23,940. This is based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credit points, and fees will vary depending on the units you choose. This indicative fee does not include other fees like administrative and incidental fees or the cost of textbooks. Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.
No, the Master of TESOL does not lead to a formal teaching qualification. However, after completing this course you can teach English overseas, in Australian private language schools or in university language centres. Additionally, the National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) states that English language centre senior managers must complete a TESOL postgraduate course.
At Curtin Perth, intake is offered in Special Study Period 1 and Special Study Period 3 each year. For example, Special Study Period 3, 2026 applications are open until 13 Aug 2026, and Special Study Period 1, 2027 applications close 11 Feb 2027. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
