Common Questions
Admission requires one of the following: successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Architecture); successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Architecture; successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours) with an Advanced Minor in Architecture; or successful completion of another three-year undergraduate architectural course, in which case applications will be assessed using a range of criteria including an online portfolio, a personal statement, and University transcripts.
Your portfolio should be between 10 and 20 pages and must address architecture- and/or urban design-related questions and include visual examples. Swinburne is looking for evidence of your ability to think spatially, critically and creatively. As well as finished outcomes, they are also interested in concept sketches, 3D models or working drawings that display your thinking process. The portfolio will be assessed on conceptual thinking and level of ambition, spatial thinking and planning, digital and analogue communication skills including architectural drawing conventions, and construction and environmental technology. All work must be original, all images must be clearly labelled, and group work must indicate your individual contribution.
The course takes 2 years full-time or the equivalent duration in part-time study.
International students must satisfy one of the following English language requirements: an IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with an overall score of 70% and all skills at 70% or above; or equivalent measures as listed on Swinburne's English language requirements page.
Yes, credit transfer is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) also allows students to gain credit towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Both are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
