About This Course

This course is designed to enhance students' communication skills so that they can participate more confidently in an English-language healthcare environment while preparing for the OET test. The course is presented as helping students improve reading, writing, listening and speaking for healthcare settings, while also preparing them to undertake the OET test with confidence. The curriculum was developed by experienced English teachers in association with training provided by Cambridge Assessment English, and the team has participated in OET Roadshows, stakeholder sessions, NEAS and English Australia conferences, and meetings with Cambridge Assessment English.

Completion of upper-intermediate General English or Cambridge FCE at MIT

What are the class hours and how many hours per week will I study?

The OET Preparation course runs Monday to Friday in the evening, from 4:30pm to 8:45pm, which includes a 15-minute break. This amounts to 4 hours of study per day and 20 contact hours per week.

How is the course structured across the week?

Each day focuses on one of the four skills — Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing, and Vocabulary — supported by grammar and vocabulary development. For example, Monday covers Reading and Reading Practice, Tuesday covers Listening and Listening Practice, Wednesday covers Speaking and Role-play, Thursday covers Writing and Letter Writing, and Friday covers Vocabulary and a Mini Test.

How often will I be tested during the course?

Students regularly complete mini-tests and a full test every 6 weeks, with individual feedback provided on progress and areas that still need improvement.
