The Junior School follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), which is expertly designed for children aged 3 to 12. It is a curriculum framework that prepares students for the intellectual and emotional challenges of further education and employment on the global stage, incorporating local and global issues and six related, transdisciplinary themes.
A variety of specialist staff are involved in the Junior School, including dedicated music, art, drama, STEM and physical education teachers, a school counsellor, learning enhancement teachers, a specialist language teacher, along with experienced storytellers/library technicians who foster and develop a love of reading.
Classrooms open at 8.20am and classes commence at 8.30am. There is a fruit break from 9.30am–9.40am, recess from 10.45am–11.15am, lunch eating from 1.20pm–1.35pm, and lunch from 1.35pm–2.10pm. Dismissal is at 3.15pm for Prep to Year 2 students and 3.20pm for Years 3 and 4.
Yes, Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) is run by TeamKids. Before School Care is available from 7.00am to 8.20am for ELC3 to Year 6 students, and After School Care is available from 3.15pm to 6.00pm for Prep to Year 6 students.
St Leonard's College is the only Australian school invited to engage in the OECD 2030 project – The Future of Education, and its Professional Learning Programs are informed by the world's leading educational bodies such as Harvard University and University of London. The IB PYP is also taught in the Early Learning Centre and shares many fundamental principles of the Reggio approach, facilitating a smooth transition for children into the Junior School.
