About This Course

Primary Years P-6 at Wesley College Melbourne delivers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), offered across the College's Elsternwick, Glen Waverley and St Kilda Road campuses from Early Learning through to Year 6. The IB PYP is an internationally recognised, inquiry-based approach that delivers the Australian Curriculum through six transdisciplinary themes — Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organise Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet — helping students build connections between classroom learning and the wider world while developing skills in thinking, communication, research, self-management and social interaction.

Inquiry-based investigations run across the Arts, Language Acquisition, Mathematics, Physical and Health Education, Science, Social Studies and Technologies, supported by small class sizes and specialist primary-years teachers. From Prep to Year 4, students use College-supplied iPads linked to classroom smartboards, while coding, robotics and drone technology (using tools such as Ozobots, BBC micro:bit and Little Bits) build technological literacy across the Junior School. As an eSmart accredited school, Wesley also equips students with age-appropriate cyber safety skills.

In Years 5 and 6, students continue within the PYP framework while choosing a language acquisition elective (French or Chinese), and take part in cocurricular sport, performing arts and music, plus an annual Outdoor Education camp. The programme culminates in the PYP Exhibition, a self-directed inquiry project students present in Year 6 as a capstone of their primary learning, before progressing into Wesley's Middle School.

Application Progression Questionnaire with the applicant's most recent school report, NAPLAN results (as applicable) and a Medicare immunisation history statement (required for ECLC to Year 6 applicants)
No AEAS English test required for Prep to Year 4; for Years 5-6 entry with English as a second language, an AEAS score of 60+ (Stanines 7 and 6 in non-verbal general skills and Mathematics) is required
Possible interview with the Head of Campus prior to an offer of enrolment
