Reception to Year 6

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a respected curriculum framework applied in hundreds of schools around the world. The PYP centres around the recognition of a child's natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect. The PYP is underpinned by inquiry-based learning experiences that engage children in critical and creative thinking. It generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment to nurture the whole child and foster a lifelong love of learning for all. The PYP is transdisciplinary, meaning students learn across subject areas while inquiring into big ideas. Students explore significant concepts through units of inquiry which authentically interweave ideas and skills from relevant subject areas. At Pembroke, students from Years 1 to 6 delve into six different units of inquiry each year while ELC and Reception students explore four. The IB encourages students to develop a strong sense of the world around them and their ongoing responsibility to it. While Pembroke views knowledge and skills as essential elements of learning, we also aim to provide students with the time to think and develop conceptual understandings and attitudes that inspire them to act on their learning. The IB PYP culminates in the Year 6 Exhibition where students showcase their deep learnings by investigating issues close to their hearts as they shape a hopeful future together.
