Common Questions
You might be eligible for the exchange program if your home university has a formal agreement with Deakin. To participate, your home university must nominate you — exchange students cannot apply directly to Deakin. If accepted, you stay enrolled and pay tuition fees to your home university. If you are not nominated for an exchange or your university doesn't have an exchange agreement with Deakin, you can apply as a study abroad student and pay tuition fees directly to Deakin. Both options allow you to experience university life in Australia and gain credit towards your degree.
Study abroad tuition fees are based on your study load. For 2026, fees range from AUD $2,900 for 1 credit point (online only) to AUD $11,600 for 4 credit points (maximum on-campus enrolment). For 2027, fees range from AUD $3,000 for 1 credit point to AUD $12,000 for 4 credit points. The fees are the same whether you study on campus or online, with the main difference being the minimum enrolment requirement. The Australian Studies Summer School program costs AUD $5,200 for 2027 and includes tuition, on-campus accommodation, airport pickup, a welcome dinner, a surf day and cultural excursions.
With Deakin's flexible trimester system, you can start in March, July or November. Application deadlines, orientation sessions and study periods vary each trimester, so it is important to check the key dates to stay organised and on track. The Australian Studies Summer School runs in January, with the 2027 program scheduled from 3 to 23 January 2027.
Study abroad and exchange students enrolling on campus at Deakin must undertake a full-time study load of a minimum of 3 credit points and a maximum of 4 credit points each trimester. Most Deakin units are worth 1 credit point each. Virtual exchange and online study abroad students can select between 1 and 4 credit points depending on their preferred workload. You can also take a maximum of 1 credit point online while enrolled on campus, with the rest of your study load being on campus. One Deakin unit generally equates to 3–4 US credits or about 7.5 ECTS in Europe and the UK.
When you finish your program, you will receive access to your academic transcript via My eQuals. Your transcript is safely stored online and protected using banking-level security. You can also grant access to your home university to view your academic transcript through this platform.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
