There are six main program types: Short-term Exchange (studying at an exchange partner for less than a regular semester), Short-term Independent Study Abroad (study experiences not part of an exchange agreement), Overseas Work Integrated Learning (practical, hands-on experience such as internships, placements, and fieldwork), Overseas Voluntary Placements (unpaid international workplace experience outside formal degree requirements), Overseas Not-For-Credit Activities (experiences outside degree requirements such as attending overseas conferences), and International Study Tours (short, intensive overseas programs led by Adelaide University academic staff, typically running 2-4 weeks).
Yes, most short-term programs offer the opportunity to earn academic credit. A short-term, for-credit, program is usually worth the equivalent of one course at Adelaide University, but other arrangements may also be in place. International Study Tours, for example, offer academic credit toward your degree. Overseas Voluntary Placements, however, are primarily unpaid and do not contribute to academic credit.
Fee arrangements depend on the program type. For Short-term Exchange programs, you are enrolled into an Adelaide University exchange course and pay tuition fees to Adelaide University. For Short-term Independent Study Abroad programs, you are not enrolled in an Adelaide University course and you pay all fees directly to the host institution or provider.
Short-term programs are less than a semester and generally take place in the June-July or December-January study breaks. International Study Tours typically run for 2-4 weeks.
Yes, approval from Adelaide University is required. For Short-term Independent Study Abroad programs, after being approved by Adelaide University, you may apply directly to the overseas university or the third-party provider facilitating the program. For Overseas Not-For-Credit Activities, you still need to register and receive approval to meet Adelaide University's travel requirements, even though they sit outside degree requirements.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
