No, your degree completion date will not be impacted. While overseas as an approved semester exchange student, you will stay enrolled at Notre Dame, continue to pay your Notre Dame tuition fees, and receive credit for your overseas study towards your Notre Dame degree.
Notre Dame has partner institutions across Asia (including Sophia University in Japan, Sogang University in South Korea, Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, and others), Europe (including St Mary's University Twickenham London, Maynooth University in Ireland, University of Navarra in Spain, and others), North America (including University of Notre Dame du Lac in Indiana, Boston College, and others), and South America (Pontifical Catholic University of Chile).
Yes, several options are available. OS-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan for students in Commonwealth supported places. The New Colombo Plan (NCP) offers funding of up to $75,000 over 19 months for study in the Indo-Pacific. The Gerald Frank Brown Scholarship offers a one-time payment of A$2,000 for exchange with UK or European universities. The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program (DACKEP) supports students for short-term study in Japan or South Korea. Students currently receiving Centrelink payments may also be able to continue receiving these while on exchange.
To apply, you should first check your availability and eligibility, then enrol in the COM0369 Notre Dame Outbound Blackboard community site to research host universities. Contact the Study Abroad Office to discuss your options and speak with your program coordinator. Then submit your application via email to studyabroad@nd.edu.au, including a completed application form, personal statement, 2 letters of recommendation (minimum 1 academic referee), copy of passport, and an unofficial academic transcript. Application deadlines are 1 July for Semester 1 and 1 December for Semester 2 of the year prior.
Bachelor of Counselling, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, and Bachelor of Physiotherapy students are unable to participate in exchange programs due to program accreditation requirements. The exchange program is also unfortunately not available for postgraduate students at this stage.
