About This Course

The Undergraduate Certificate in Business is a comprehensive introduction to key principles and practices in business. Completion of the Undergraduate Certificate will guarantee direct entry into the second semester of study of the Avondale Diploma of Business or Bachelor of Business program.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Secondary education (Australia or New Zealand): A selection rank of at least 45 (ATAR plus any adjustment factors); OR a minimum of 24 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; OR New Zealand Year 13 NCEA Level 3 results, identifying university entrance attainment; OR an appropriate scores in Avondale University-approved entrance exams; OR the International Big Picture Learning Credential.
Applicants must not be a current year 12 (or equivalent) student and must be 18 years or older at the time of commencing their course.
Vocational Education and Training (VET): An Australian Certificate III, as approved by the Course Convenor, or an equivalent New Zealand certificate, as approved by the Director, Student Administration Services.
Prior university study (Australia or New Zealand): Successfully completed at least 2 units of a Bachelor's degree; OR completed a bridging or enabling course, or another recognised tertiary preparation course; OR successfully completed at least three units of Avondale's Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation.
Overseas secondary or higher education: Refer to the Admission Policy (HE) for specific information regarding both the minimum academic entry standards (Appendix 1) and the English language proficiency requirements (Appendix 2).
Work and life experience: If a Senior Secondary Certificate has not been completed, an eligible applicant may sit Avondale University-approved entrance exams. In exceptional circumstances, an applicant may be admitted based on equivalent qualifications or work and life experience as assessed by the Course Convenor or delegate and/or the DVC Academic.
English Language Requirements: Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through achieving an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-band less than 6.0, or one of the other ways outlined in Appendix 2 of the Admission Policy (HE).

How long does it take to complete the Undergraduate Certificate in Business?

The Undergraduate Certificate in Business takes 0.5 years (one semester) to complete on a full-time basis, or an equivalent period part-time. The maximum time allowed to complete the course is 1 year.

Can the Undergraduate Certificate in Business lead to further study?

Yes. Completion of the Undergraduate Certificate will guarantee direct entry into the second semester of study of the Avondale Diploma of Business or Bachelor of Business program, and graduates receive full credit for units completed in either program.

How many units do I need to complete, and how are they structured?

The Undergraduate Certificate in Business consists of four units and requires 24 credit points (CPs) for completion. All units have a 6 CP value. Students studying full time complete the units available in a given semester, while part-time students can select any four units from the semester lists based on when units are offered.

Is this course available to international students?

Yes, this course is available to international students who meet the Australian government requirements for a student visa (subclass 500) to reside in Australia for the duration of the course. International students on a student visa must study on campus in full-time mode and cannot enrol by distance mode. The course is not available online for international students who want to study from their home country.

What are the minimum ATAR or selection rank requirements for entry?

Applicants who have completed secondary education in Australia or New Zealand need a selection rank of at least 45, which is calculated as the ATAR plus any applicable adjustment factors.
