About This Course

The UniLink Bridging Program is a way to meet the entry requirements to study a UniLink diploma at Swinburne. It builds knowledge in business, design, engineering or science and the confidence to communicate at a tertiary education level in Australia. The program is an alternative for international students who have completed a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12 but do not meet the entry requirements for a UniLink diploma, would like to transfer from another Australian education provider to a UniLink diploma but do not meet the entry requirements, or do not have the prerequisite subjects for design, engineering or science courses. With smaller class sizes, students receive additional support from teachers to help develop confidence and ability to communicate in a university setting.

Requirements

Successful completion of Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification.
Non-Year 12 entry: Completion or partial completion of an approved tertiary qualification (including certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, associate degrees and degrees). Additional performance criteria and prerequisite requirements may also apply.
Students admitted with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements may be eligible for academic credit.
Applicants without a formal qualification but with significant and relevant work experience will be considered if they can demonstrate they can undertake the course with a reasonable prospect of success.
Successful completion of a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12.
English language requirements: IELTS overall band of 6.0 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.5, OR Swinburne English Language Centre: EAP 5 Advanced with overall 65% and all skills 60% or above, or equivalent measures.
Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place.

Upon successful completion of the UniLink Bridging Program, you can progress into the Diploma of Arts and Communication (UniLink), Diploma of Business (UniLink), Diploma of Design (UniLink), or Diploma of Engineering (UniLink), among other UniLink diplomas offered at Swinburne.

How many units do I need to complete in the UniLink Bridging Program and how are they structured?

Students must successfully complete four units in total: one core unit (Academic and Communication Skills B – COM00003) and three elective units. Electives may be discipline-specific (Design, or Engineering/Science) or general units, depending on the UniLink diploma you intend to enter.

What are the fees for the UniLink Bridging Program in 2026?

The indicative yearly tuition fee for international students in 2026 is AUD $17,620. This generally includes the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which is capped at $373 for 2025. Fees are subject to annual review and are assessed according to actual study load each semester.

How many intakes are available per year for the UniLink Bridging Program?

There are three intakes per year for the UniLink Bridging Program. For 2026–2027, the intake dates are 22 June 2026 (Pathways Intake 2), 19 October 2026 (Pathways Intake 3), and 22 February 2027 (Pathways Intake 1).

Is the UniLink Bridging Program available to domestic students?

No, the UniLink Bridging Program is only available for international students. International students in Australia holding student visas are required to study full-time and on campus at the Hawthorn location.
