University of Canberra International Foundation Studies

The International Foundation Studies Program is a one-year pathway program for international students seeking entry into the first year of the majority of undergraduate degrees at the University of Canberra. It is a non-award program designed to equip international students with the skills and capabilities for successful undergraduate study, with a strong focus on English language skills and tertiary preparation skills. The curriculum is equivalent to the Australian Year 12.

To be eligible for entry, applicants must have successfully completed Year 11 or equivalent, be at least 17 years of age at the time of commencing the course, and meet the English language requirement of an overall IELTS Academic score (or equivalent) of 5.5 with no band score below 5.0. Certified forecast or provisional examination results are not accepted if final results are not available.

The teaching calendar consists of 3 terms of study. Each term consists of 12 weeks of teaching, a one week mid-term break, and 1 week of assessment. Typically, there are three recess weeks for students between each term. Students will normally complete the program in one calendar year, over three terms of study.

The course is open for admissions across three trimesters per year. In 2026, teaching start dates are 02 March 2026 (Trimester 1), 29 June 2026 (Trimester 2), and 26 October 2026 (Trimester 3), all delivered at UC College, Bruce, ACT. Similar trimester intakes are also available in 2027.
